Local History of Bannoffee Pie: Banoffee pie was created in 1971 at The Hungry Monk restaurant in Jevington, East Sussex, England. It was invented by the restaurant's owner, Nigel Mackenzie, and his chef, Ian Dowding. The dessert is a combination of bananas, toffee, and cream on a biscuit base, hence the name "banoffee" (a blend of "banana" and "toffee"). The creators initially experimented with various recipes, and after several attempts, they found that the combination of banana and toffee was the perfect match. Banoffee pie quickly became popular in the UK and beyond.
